A week before Easter, Orthodox people celebrate two important holidays: first - Lazarev Saturday, and then Palm Sunday - a holiday symbolizing the coming of Jesus Christ to Jerusalem to the people.

And with shouts: "Hosanna (salvation) to the Son of David!" they threw at the feet of the donkey, on which the Lord sat, their robes and palm branches - waii.
But the Savior ascended to the Jewish capital not in order to become an earthly king, but in order to suffer and die for all nations, so that all, believers in Him, to exalt them above sin and death.
And after a few days, seeing that the hopes of restoring the earthly greatness of Israel were not justified, that the Kingdom of Christ is `` not of this world, '' the same people will shout: “Crucify Crucify Him! "
In Russia, palm trees do not grow, and therefore there is a tradition to come to church on this day with willow twigs. Hence the name of the holiday - Palm Sunday.
