In Islam, there are two main holidays: Urban Ait and Oraza Ait.

According to the Kazakh tradition, for these holidays we always fry bauyrsaks and silkworms.

And as I remember from my childhood, the day before the holiday (and Eid al-Adha and Oraza Ait) have always been called Arapa kuni.

In my mind, and in the minds of the majority, it stuck. And even some publishers write that today is the Day of Arap.

But in fact, Arap is the beginning of the great holiday of Kurban Ait. It has nothing to do with Oraza aytu.

Arapa means knowledge, recognition, understanding. This is the ninth day of the month of Zul Hijja. On the day of Araf, on the eve of the Great Day of Sacrifice, pilgrims stand on Mount Arafat and pray. Without this ritual, the Hajj is considered invalid.
Those who do not perform the Hajj should fast on this day.
