Previously, the entire celebration of Shrovetide was aimed at strengthening and improving relations within the family. The gatherings that the women had on the sixth day of Shrovetide were called "Sister's gatherings" because the young wife, who got married last year, invited her husband's sister to visit. It was customary to treat the sister-in-law (the husband's sister) with the best goodies. After all, this is how the sister judged the qualities of the brother's wife. And no one wanted to quarrel with the family of their betrothed or be branded as a bad mistress. This day was not limited to culinary delights. It was customary to generously present the spouse's sister with gifts and entertain in every possible way.
