And so, on an April day in 1961, the world's first spacecraft - satellite, Vostok-1, was launched into open space for the first time with a person on board. It was the pilot - cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin.
Having flown around the globe, he successfully landed.
Yuri Gagarin became a symbol of the conquest of the Cosmos, paving the way for all future cosmonauts!
And the day - April 12 - became a national holiday!
