On November 27, Russia celebrates the Day of the Marine Corps. The holiday was established by order of the Commander-in-Chief of the Navy of the Russian Federation No. 433 dated December 19, 1995 in memory of the Decree of Peter I. It was on this day that Emperor Peter I announced the creation of a "regiment of sea soldiers".
Over the years service marines showed themselves excellently in the Russo-Turkish War, the Patriotic War of 1812, the Crimean War and the Great Patriotic War. The marines took part in the defense of Moscow, Leningrad, Odessa, Sevastopol, the Arctic, Stalingrad. Enemies called the Marines "Black Death" - this indicated the special color of our soldiers' uniforms and their professionalism. For the heroism shown during the Great Patriotic War, dozens of marines were awarded guards titles and honorary titles. Tens of thousands of Marines were awarded orders and medals, more than 150 - the titles of Hero of the Soviet Union.
After World War II, the Marines continued the traditions of our fathers and showed courage in the war in Angola, Vietnam, Syria, Egypt, Afghanistan and other countries ... The Marines are rightfully recognized as one of the best combat units in the Russian army.
