We, of course, are familiar with his sonorous names.
We know about the merits of his ascetic life.
But what do we know about what he was?
He embarked on the path of monasticism very young. He took the tonsure and learned obedience, humility, self-control and chastity.
He loved silence. I avoided conversations. He ate only plant foods. Wore rough clothes. He slept on the floor.
He lived in the most modest cells.
The souls of both monks and laity were revealed to him.
An ascetic with a rich and generous soul of a saint.
